SkaDate Dating Software Presents: Five Songs About Online Dating

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

by Zima

Hey, guys! Do you know what day is it today? Don’t bother thinking too hard - “it’s not Friday” - is the answer I was looking for. Yes, indeed, it’s Tuesday, the day SkaDate Dating Software blog is usually reserved for some serious or at least semi-serious stuff. Well, what can I say, this tradition just went out the window, ha!

As you can see, I’m in a great mood. For surfing!

Yeah, I’ll be surfing YouTube today, looking for songs about Online/Internet Dating/Love.  Because it’s June and webmasters who are not actually surfing real waves, need a little boost to keep on making money with their copies of the SkaDate dating script.  Here’s what I dug up in the pile of sarcasm, known as the world’s biggest video-sharing website.

Let’s face it, online dating is an easy target, and in essence, this song takes jabs at it in the most cliche way possible. Dozens of Internet performers and comedians have done this to death. But I still like the video, since the singer actually looks like she rather enjoyed all her web adventures before the computer broke. And I’ve got to note that since the family managed to upload the video on the net, the relationship must have worked out just fine, unlike in the next instance.

Oh, this one’s good on several levels. Remember a story a couple of months back, when Alissa Bereznak, a Gizmodo writer (of all people) bashed Magic: the Gathering World Championship Jon Finkel for being too nerdy, after meeting him on a dating site? Well, this is a song that fights back, but never steps over the line of a typical online rage. Nicely done. Except, I wonder why Finkel’s name is not mentioned once throughout the song. Not important? Kinda like he was to Alissa, hmm…

Let’s have a professional performance for a change. That’s Melissa Dinwiddie singing Online Dating Blues in Las Vegas. The sincerity expressed here, on top of the sheer beauty of her voice, even managed to convince the folks over at Online Dating Industry Journal to feature the song on their blog.

Can’t you see, we are breaking stereotypes here? Two girls, one ukulele. None of the cynicism. Just a sweet song about online dating right at the moment, when we all thought nothing like this was possible. After all, the setting alone can raise suspicion. But think again, and better yet, watch the following video.

This one went viral last year and did a lot to restore my hope for humanity, although not for Danish singers - those are hopeless.  But yes, things like this makes me believe we are all making the world a little better, or in the very least, a little quirkier in a good, innocent, fun way. Enjoy the last week of June!

SkaDate Dating Software Team: Jane, SkaDate Support Department Head

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

by Zima

Last month we’ve successfully launched a new section of the SkaDate Dating Software blog, introducing members of the SkaDate team to our readers. This way the community can learn about real people who make the product successful, and see that the team behind SkaDate dating script really cares about every single client.

This time we’ve got someone familiar to anyone who’s ever asked for help on the forum. Meet Jane, the recently promoted Support Department Head. Isn’t it nice to finally put the face to a name?

Give us a short introduction

I’m Jane, and I run the Support Department. Basically, I oversee the day-to-day operation of the entire support team. Of course, this involves a lot of supervision work, so I volunteered to keep moderating the forum, as a way to stay in touch with clients, and directly communicate with them.

In general, I’m in charge of all the support operators, and if time allows, I also review some of the tickets sent to the Customer Service. Among other things, client feedback allows me to add fixes to encountered bugs, create new manuals, or improve existing FAQs.

Tell us more about the Support Team and its place within the company

Quite honestly, I’m very happy with the setup we run here. Our company is completely independent, which has its benefits. For instance, the Support Department is comparatively small, and that means teamwork and trust is essential. Luckily, we are all friends here, so we discuss all the reported client issues together, looking for the best possible solution.

The Support Team is also an important link between other departments. Our interaction with clients makes us experts in what people want to see the most when discussing future development of the product. We share compiled information with members of Sales, Marketing, Design, Development and Quality Assurance teams. But at the same time, we enjoy a great deal of independence while dealing directly with specific client issues.

Why is there no 24/7 online chat support at SkaDate?

The short answer is that we had to learn the hard way that 24/7 support was not really effective. We used it for a while, but had to replace it with a ticket system for improved efficiency. Currently we provide support 9 AM to 6 PM GMT+6 (Monday – Friday), with a guaranteed response time of 3 hours.

Now the long answer.  Our experience shows that the real time allocated to dealing with a single client issue through online chat or phone conversation, can be spent more effectively completely resolving up to 4 reports submitted as tickets. On top of that, when clients are faced with the necessity of filing tickets, they usually gather all the available information about the issue at hand. Needless to say, this greatly speeds up the resolution of the problem, unlike during emotional outbursts in chat sessions, when a lot of vital data is simply forgotten.

So, what is the most frequently asked question you have to answer?

There are a few, and most of them come up when clients attempt to setup their websites for the first time. But the question we see every single day is how to replace the welcome text on the front page. I have the answer right here!

  1. Go to your Admin Area/Languages section;
  2. Type ‘Welcome to’ into the Search Box in the Admin Area/Languages/Search, select ‘values’ and click Go button;
  3. Find the following language key: promo_index_your template name;
  4. Click the text below this keyname;
  5. Click the Edit Values button;
  6. Edit the text to your liking;
  7. Click Save;

And finally, is there a way to setup a client request (or communication) to receive the best possible and most competent answer?

First of all, we have two ways of solving problems – through a ticket system or the Customer Support Forum. The latter is accessible via the software Customer Area, where clients can create topics with reports on the issue.

As for the ticket system, it is vitally important to include all the necessary data about the problem. The more client tells us – the better we understand what is going on – the quicker we solve it.

It is best to include a detailed descriptions of the issue, step-by-step actions that led to its appearance, a screenshot of the error, all access details for the server and admin panel (especially if the customer changed those since the last support communication).

All of that will save everyone, including the client, a lot of time, since we will not have to ask for additional information, and could approach the problem directly. Good luck, everyone!

SkaDate Dating Software Niches 101: Senior Dating

SkaDate Dating Software Niches 101: Senior DatingSkaDate Dating Software Niches 101 is back, and this time we’ll talk about one of the most steadily growing phenomenon that is Senior Dating. Don’t forget to check out our past entries as well, especially if you are still deciding on the best use for the SkaDate dating script.

First, I want to deal with terminology here. The label of senior dating is just that – a label. I know a great number of people over 60, who’d rebel if they heard that. They are all very fit, great looking, and are more adventurous and capable than many of their younger peers. So, mature adults, elders, older people, or baby boomers, are all a go in this game. Pick the name carefully, going by what your intended audience prefers.

There is no denying that Senior Dating entered its renaissance in recent years. Reserch results at eHarmony show that Internet has become the most popular way for people over 50 to meet, and OurTime study revealed that single baby boomers consider companionship more important now than when they were younger.

Put two and two together, and you’ve got a huge market out there, especially considering that about a quarter of the US population is now over the age of 65.

No one wants to stay single for long, especially as people grow older. Friendship, love, financial stability, etc., – everything that comes with a solid relationship is something all of us desire, but might be more difficult for seniors to achieve.  Indeed, online just might be the friendliest and most esily accesible place for older people to meet.

It is important to realise, that while the concept of dating stays pretty much the same, the mechanics have changed significantly over the years. It is simply not very convenient for seniors to jump through the same hoops younger people do these days. And that is why online dating is considered such a great alternative.

Major dating sites constantly report about adjusting their strategies to accomodate the growing number of single seniors signing up for their services. Better yet, specialized sites are springing up all over the Internet to target specific groups: SeniorMatch, DatingforSeniors, OnlineSeniorDates, SeniorPeopleMeet, BabyBoomerPeopleMeet, DateaBabyBoomer, MeetBoomer, etc. All of them still cannot cover the entire market demand, judging by the constant coverage of the matter in mainstream media.

The bottom line is – seniors know what they want from a relationship and are ready to pay for it. So if you want to start an online dating site, senior niche is actually an easy choice. It’s quite lucrative, ripe with oportunities for free publicity, and every single local community has plenty of people you can cater to with a right strategy. Seize this opportunity. Good luck and see you next time in Niches 101.

SkaDate Dating Software Tips About Tips

SkaDate Dating Software Tips About TipsYou know, I’ve been running SkaDate Dating Software blog for a while now, covering industry news, explaining advantages of various niches, humoring you on occasion, introducing members of our team to the public, and giving advise on handling SkaDate dating script in the most beneficial way possible.

What I haven’t done is listing actual pointers for online dating. I’m talking about those “tips,” and “guides,” and “do’s and don’ts” articles the Internet is swimming in. I haven’t done it because there’s just too many of them around, and because, let’s face it, most of them are just way too dim to begin with. Use a good picture? Well, thanks, because I was about to upload the one during the root canal surgery.

So, instead, in a typical SkaDate-Blogish way, I’ll give you five tips on how NOT TO compile guides for your dating site members.

Don’t Be Condescending

This one, I believe, is essential, but just flies over the heads of Internet article writers all the time. Like the already mentioned photo advise, tips about using proper grammar or good avatars are incredibly supercilious, don’t you think? It’s as if advise givers believe their audience is a bunch of morons, completely oblivious to their environment. Seriously, if you are giving tips, treat your members as equals, unless you want to be viewed as a “that condescendingly annoying douche.”

That Sexual Thing

Unless it’s in your TOS, I don’t think there is a reason to tell your members about their sexual behavior. It doesn’t matter if you run a Christian or Adult dating site; your visitors made a conscious choice coming there and already know what to expect. Trust me, no tips will stop your male members from sharing pictures of their privates if they decided the world absolutely has to appreciate the beauty.

Be Open and Upfront

Don’t pretend that you wrote a PhD thesis on online dating, unless you really have. But even if you have, just pretend that you haven’t, because A) no one cares, and B) no one will believe you. But yeah, basing your tips on real situations, and presenting them in a simple form will always be better than lecturing your members. Fun is a part of the game. Keep it that way.

Conspiracy Theory

I’ve read many times in numerous advise articles how people should not reveal too much about themselves. Frankly, this is baffling, especially if these articles go along with dating sites running extensive questionnaires, which take weeks to fill. In fact, telling your members what to say (and not say), just raises suspicion about the entire community you are running. Be a good host and leave it up to your guests to restrain themselves.

Be Original

No one wants to read the same “Top Ten Online Dating Tips” over and over in re-arranged order. Just ask yourself one question: “Is your site on the Internet?” Hopefully, the answer is yes, which already qualifies you as a mild expert in everything online. But then you should be aware that your members also have to use Internet to reach your service, which means they’ve likely come across dozens of advise articles just by opening their browser. All I’m sayin’ – if you want your tips to work for you, make them original. ;-)

SkaDate Dating Software New Cookie Regulation Tips

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

SkaDate Dating Software New Cookie Regulation TipsIn the last few days we’ve had several SkaDate Dating Software license holders from the EU asking us about the new “Cookie Law,” and how they can make their sites compliant with the new regulations.

First of all, let’s see what we are actually dealing with. In simple terms, it’s a regulation, which makes all websites targeting EU audiences ask their visitors for their consent to install cookies. Here’s the official name: EU Directive 2009/136/EC, and you can clearly see it was first introduced three years ago.

The directive seeks giving users more knowledge and control over who’s and why tracking them via cookies. Unsurprisingly, right now not many users know that every time they visit any site, they leave some information behind. With the regulation in place, the EU lawmakers attempt to make another step at increasing this awareness and improving overall online privacy.

Over the last three years all European countries had to introduce changes to their internal legislation to make the directive work locally. But like with everything in the EU, the regulation adoption process is as slow as ever, and by now only a handful of states (including the UK) are fully compatible with the e-Privacy reg.

Nevertheless, the rule has been enforced, and you have to remember that it does not matter where your online business is physically located. If a website is based in the US, but targets European audience, it must comply with the directive (theoretically).

Now, what can you do as an owner of a site running on the SkaDate dating script? Well, following the example of the others is the best solution at the moment. Here’s how ICO, the UK enforcer of the regulation is dealing with the issue:

BBC ran this message at the top of the page for a while:

ITV chose a warning at the bottom:

Virgin went with a button:

And here is a UK dating site that simply warns visitors with a top-page notice:

As you can see there is no unified solution, and truth be told, most sites simply ignore the directive altogether for now. Of course, that’s one way to deal with the situation, but just to feel extra safe, it is still advisable to amend your Privacy Policy, and add a couple of sentences to the index page.

To do so, just go to your Admin Area/Template/Index Page/Index Page Builder section. Once there add any text in the desired area of the page and save it. Voila.

We are aware that adding unexpected elements to the index page can play a trick with your design and presentation. That is why we are currently working on the option of adding an information splash screen to your site. The feature will be made available with the next revision of the SkaDate solution.
