SkaDate Dating Software had a very eventful and quite successful February, and going through the last month’s news proves this was the trend across the board for Internet dating. From big international companies to the smallest startups running on SkaDate dating script, the month of love helped everyone.
But not everything was candy and roses, as the scientific community took a few shots at the industry. Click through the following slideshow and see if you have missed anything interesting last month. The list of SkaDate’s own February blog posts is below the Roundup.
1. Interview With The Head Of SkaDate Team
SkaDate Dating Software and its parent company Skalfa received some extra attention following the release of SkaDate 9, and after
winning the Runner-up position in the Best Dating Software category at the 2012 iDate Awards.
Consequently, Mark Brooks, the man behind Online Personals Watch and an internet dating expert in general, took time to interview Emil Sarnogoev, Skalfa's CEO and Founder.
Read it here, it's quite informative.
2. Valentine's Boosts Online Dating Industry
As expected, the boost the online dating industry experienced since December continued through the month, building up to an incredible peak around Valentine's day.
Explaining the phenomenon, Cupid's Co-Founder Bill Dobbie said that "There is a recognised industry trend that January is strong because of singles’ new year’s resolutions, and February because of Valentine’s".
SkaDate has also celebrated the holiday with a humorous post
February 14th, Traffic, And Other Nice Things.
3. Scientists Doubt Authenticity of Matchmaking Algorithms
One of the most covered stories of the month erupted after Eli J. Finkel, an associate professor of social psychology at Northwestern University, published his 200-page report on online dating in the journal Psychological Science in the Public Interest.
"Online dating is good. I'm very glad it exists," says Finkel, but adds, "The problem is that the way online dating is implemented undermines some amount of its goodness."
The response from the industry? A collective shrug.
4. Online Dating Could Only Get Bigger
And here comes the explanation for that shrug. According to the new data, online dating revenue rose 57% in the past year, and since the business serves only one tenth of all current singles, there is still plenty of room to grow.
"Innovations in technology are expediting growth in the dating business," explained Sanjay Sarathy, Chief Marketing Officer of Vindica, a digital marketing solution.

5. US Dating Service Market Blooms
Further proof of online dating industry's stability in the face of shaking economy came from the Marketdata Enterprises Report. It is revealed that the US dating services market is now a $2.1 billion business, with online dating enterprises representing a huge 53% share of that total value. A further 7.5% growth in revenue is expected this year.

6. February Is Online Dating Safety Awareness Month
While online dating industry brings millions of dollars in revenues, it is important to remember that dating scammers are more active than ever, causing enormous financial damage to site members, as well as tainting the business as a whole.
Online Dating Magazine spent February (the Online Dating Safety Awareness Month) investigating how romance scams work, and supplying dating site owners with special support materials.
7. New Regulations for Online Dating
It seems that the idea of introducing new government regulations for the improvement of online dating safety has been around for ages, but nothing is actually done about it so far. Looks like some progress in the area will be made this year (at least in the North America), as the talks on the background checks for dating site users intensify.
8. Industry Events
A very special event for online dating industry took place in Boston this month, with iDateStartup gathering together business experts and beginning entrepreneurs to share ideas and experience, build new partnerships, and learn of new market opportunities.
The next major event worth attending will be the Online Dating Summit 2012, held March 2- 5, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. Sugar daddy dating website guru Brandon Wade is scheduled to speak among other guests.
9. Online Dating Comedy Gold
Not one but two upcoming major Hollywood productions will be based around online dating plots. First, Ben Stiller's remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will have the main character being an active eHarmony user.
Second is a straight-up online dating comedy A Case of You, with a stellar cast of Brendan Fraser, Justin Long (who also co-wrote the story), Sienna Miller, Peter Dinklage, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Rockwell.
10. Great News For Android Users
Since mobile dating is all the craze right now, Android users will be happy to learn about some interesting findings in a new study by Match.com. It is revealed that owners of smartphones run on Google's OS are more likely to have sex on a first date (62% vs 57% of iPhone users), or take part in one-night stands (55% vs 50%). Apparently owning a BlackBerry will net you almost no sex at all.
SkaDate brought even more great Android news by
releasing the long-anticipated native application for Android devices, which joins the SkaDate Mobile Edition (SkaDate Mobile Browser Version and SkaDate iPhone/iPad App).
