July was an extremely busy month for SkaDate Dating Software team, which managed to both hold a successful promo campaign and enjoy a short summer break, all in the span of 30 days. This, however, seems to be the case with the rest of the industry.
While there were wast stretches of virtually no activity at all, the beginning and end of the month produced several quite exciting news items. Check it all out in the slideshow, and don’t forget about our own July blog posts below.
1. Bill Dobbie Rises
Incredibly, July was all about Cupid. Not the Roman god of desire, but the international company knocking on the door of major global breakthrough. First it was reported the US Internet giant Interactive Corporation (Match.com, uDate.com, Chemestry.com) was interested in purchasing it. Later, Cupid itself took over French dating service Assistance Genie Logiciel. Finally, the man behind the company, Bill Dobbie appeared in person for an interview to Scotsman.com's business section, explaining how he was able to achieve such success.
2. Chinese Expansion
China simply doesn't let go. Every single month the country is prominently featured in news linked to online dating. July was no exception. The revenue of China's online dating market was forecasted to reach $315 million in 2014, despite the news of Jiayuan CEO stepping down from the position due to personal reasons. Oh, and the online dating company 51Taonan.com just launched a campaign seeking to find a suitable partner for the country's 36 female millionaires. How about that?
3. Brandon Wade Rebels
Men signing up to meet rich women - quick, someone call Brandon Wade, the owner of WhatsYourPrice and SeekingArangements. The outspoken Sugar Daddy King revealed this week that international bestseller '50 Shades of Gray' is actually boosting subscriptions for the niche. In another news, Wade quite publicly dumped Amazon cloud service following two outages in two month, saying his clients simply cannot tolerate such failures.
4. iDate Update
I think iDate (or Webwire) should just hire me for spreading the word about their activities every month. Anyway, in July we had several important announcements: a Germany iDate Convention for September, something called a Super Conference in Las Vegas for January 2013, and finally, the opening of nominations for the 4th Annual iDate Awards. Now, that's more exiting. Remember, we've won the last year's runner-up in the Best Dating Software Provider category. Let's get the top prize this year, shall we? And don't forget to get into all the fun and action as well!
5. Mila Kunis and Ghost Dating
And now we've come full circle with last month's news of Mila Kunis shadowing for her friends on various dating sites, thus sort-of pre-screening her pals' potential matches. Congratulations, it's now a real trend called Ghost Dating. Can't communicate online, but have the cash? A professional matchmaker will impersonate you for anywhere from $1,500 to $20,000.
6. Animal Matchmaking
Love animals? Well, you gonna love this. Sick of going through bureaucracy, desperate zookeepers set up an online dating service to match up rare animals. That's right, it works just like a real deal, except with less lying about age and weight. The website run by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Population Management Center already has thousands of singles signed up and even successfully matched.
7. Machine Matchmaking
The zoo site might have a good overall number, but it has nothing on Janis Spindel, America's top mathcmaker, who claims she has already garnered closer to 1,000 marriages. Now Spindel eyes the ultimate test - she wants to challenge (what she calls) 'online dating machines.' Five of them to be exact. The even is scheduled for August 4. I'll make sure to come back to it in the next roundup or maybe sooner.
8. These Aren't The Droids You're Looking For
Now, people, this is inexcusable! Life of Android published it's Top Five Dating Apps, and guess what? We are not on the list! Seeing as how many of you just got a SkaDate Mobile Edition for free, I say, let's change this situation around. In case you wonder, OKCupid, Zoosk, Jack'd, POF, and Dating - these are the targets we need to take down. Begin.
9. Ashley's Done It Again
You know who to turn to in our business if you want a little fun and controversy. That's right, Ashley Madison - the dating company specializing on arranging extramarital affairs. Their amusing campaigns featuring Newt Gingrich and Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi are still fresh in memory, but the new billboards guarantee men exciting affairs even if they look like Kim Jong-un of North Korea. Who's next?
10. It Had To Happen
More visual humor, but don't tell me you didn't expect it. Actually, it's kinda surprising it took this long for the fake dating profiles of the newly single TomKat to appear online. And yeah, I wish I had come up with the idea...
