Why don't you offer audio/video chat for free?
Basically, there are two server solutions that can be used for running flash audio/video chat applications: Adobe Flash Media Server and Red 5. Below you can find a brief difference explanation (not stepping into technicalities).
Adobe Flash Media Server (also known as Flash Communication Server) is software for running media driven multiuser applications. This software is not open source. The license is quite expensive, and has to be reniewed on an annual basis (the fee is up to a few thousands USD a year). Despite this fact we chose to develop our audio/video chat applications to run on Flash Media Server, as it is regularly updated and constantly maintained, which means a significanly better chat service quality, and performance with minimum bugs and glitches. But at the same time the audio/video chat addon cannot be free for our customers, as we run into expenses for the license and a dedicated server to host the chat on.
Red 5 is an open source version of Flash Media Server written in Java. It is considerably less stable than Adobe Flash Media Server and cannot boast the same level of support and maintenance, which results in poorer performance of audio/video chat software written for it.
Choosing between low cost and efficiency we stepped towards efficiency.
